KUALA LUMPUR: A former religious teacher was jailed one and a half months for punching a salesman and causing a commotion during the Plaza Low Yat controversy.
Muhamad Faizal Mahmud Affandi, 27, was hit with a month’s jail for hurting promoter Chea Wei Jian, 23.
For the charge of disrupting the peace, magistrate Saifulakmal Said imposed a 14-day sentence.
Muhamad Faizal was charged with committing the offences at the ground floor of the building on Nov 12. Based on the statement of facts, Chea was working at the Oppo smartphone shop when Muhamad Faizal entered and asked for Chea’s colleague. Chea replied that his colleague had gone home.
When Chea walked to the escalator, Muhamad Faizal asked him when his colleague would be back on duty.
As Chea looked at his mobile phone to check the duty roster, Muhamad Faizal punched his face and a commotion started.
The prosecuting officer was Asst Supt Nom Phot Prackdit while Muhamad Faizal was unrepresented.
