Some 30 foreigners held in raids on massage parlours

GEORGE TOWN: Twenty-seven foreign masseuses and an In-donesian man from seven massage parlours in Penang were nabbed during a seven-hour operation.

State Immigration Department enforcement chief Abdul Rahman Hassan said 16 of them were Thai nationals, two Chinese nationals, four Vietnamese, five Indone-sians including the man and a Filipina.

“We checked 47 people during the operation on the massage parlours located in Sungai Pinang, Perak Road, Krystal Point, Penang Road, Bukit Mertajam and Butterworth.

“Twenty-four personnel including senior officers from the department were deployed during the operation which started at 3pm on Wednesday,” he said in a press statement yesterday.

He said the detainees violated Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for entering and staying in Malaysia illegally and Rule 39(b) Immigration Act 1963 for working without proper permits.
