JITRA: The usually serene river behind Wat Boonyaram was turned into a bed of flickering lights as hundreds of lotus-shaped floats were released into the river.

Many Thais from both sides of the border gathered at the Buddhist temple in Padang Sera, some 40km from Alor Setar, to release the krathong (lotus-shaped vessels) from a makeshift platform during the state-level Loy Krathong celebration.
