Penang state assembly approves increasing assemblymen, exco salaries


GEORGE TOWN: The Penang state assembly has passed, without objection, the Members of Administration and Members of the Legislative Assembly (Remuneration) (Amendment) Enactment 2015 to increase the salaries of state assemblymen and state exco members from Jan 1 next year.

The pay for the state’s 40 assemblymen will be increased from RM6,000 to RM11,250 while the state assembly Speaker and state exco members’ salaries will go up from RM6,109.29 to RM12,109.29. The allowance of the Opposition Leader will be raised from RM2,000 to RM3,000.
