KUALA LUMPUR:  PKR lawmakers have called for stricter enforcement  of the increasingly-popular vaping as it has affected a lot of people.

Dr Azman Ismail (PKR-Kuala Kedah) told reporters in Parliament that vaping "is a pointless invention which has high potential to ruin the health of the public."

"Of course if you compare it to smoking, the side effects are not as bad but it is still not a full proof solution (to quit smoking).

"We do not want people to opt for one or the other, we should minimised, therefore we call for the authorities and the government to step up efforts and to further tighten the regulations against smoking and vaping," he said.

Azman stressed that sales and cigarettes and vape should be thoroughly monitored.

"There may be a need to amend some laws, we should  strive to promote a healthy lifestyle," he added.

Datuk Mohd Idris Jusi (PKR-Batu Pahat) cautioned of the dangers of vaping to others, especially children.

"Its dangers to pregnant women and their fetus should also be made clear to the public.

"I understand that it is easy to fall back to bad habits but we need to stop this and improve the lifestyle of Malaysians. Say no to vape or smoking," he added.
