KUALA LUMPUR: A 27-year-old man was arrested by police after he allegedly beat up a handphone promoter in Low Yat Plaza here.

Dang Wangi OCPD Asst Comm Zainol Samah said the incident occurred at about 7.20pm on Thursday when the suspect approached the victim while he was working.

ACP Zainol said the man asked about the victim’s colleague who reportedly drove a yellow Honda car.

The victim replied that he had already gone home. The suspect then asked where his colleague lived but was not told of the exact location.

ACP Zainol said the victim then walked towards the escalator and the suspect followed him and asked about his colleague's work schedule.

Just as he was checking the schedule on the phone, the suspect started punching the victim on the face.

The victim headed back to the shop and told his colleagues that he was beaten up by the suspect.

ACP Zainol said the suspect followed him back to the shop and showed him a tattoo on his right arm and asked him if he knew who he was.

He said a customer tried to record the act with his tablet but the man snatched the tablet and threw it at the customer.

Another customer managed to bring the victim away from the area while the security and police managed to arrest the man.

ACP Zainol said the suspect had two previous criminal records for drugs and theft.
