Massive traffic jam on Karak after the landslide on Wednesday.

KUALA LUMPUR: Motorists using the Kuala Lumpur-Karak Highway are advised to use alternative roads to get to their destinations following the landslide at KM 52.4 of the highway at 7.18pm Wednesday.

In a statement Thursday, the Works Ministry said motorists from the east coast heading towards Kuala Lumpur are advised to exit at the Karak toll plaza and use the Pelangai-Bahau-Seremban-Kuala Lumpur route.

"They can also use the Bentong-Karak-Bahau-Seremban-Kuala Lumpur route," said the statement, which was posted by Deputy Works Minister Datuk Rosnah Abdul Rashid Shirlin in her Twitter account.

Motorists who missed the Karak toll plaza are advised to make a U-turn before the Bentong toll plaza and use the Karak-Pelangai-Bahau-Seremban-Kuala Lumpur route.

For motorists from Kuala Lumpur and are at the Lentang rest stop heading for the East Coast, they can make a U-turn to Kuala Lumpur and use the Seremban-Bahau-Pelangai-Karak route.

The statement also said cleaning works of the highway are expected to be completed as early as 10am Thursday.

For more information on the alternative routes, motorists are advised to contact the Works Ministry's Flood Operations Room at 03-26107727 which operates 24 hours or can refer to the website bencanaalam.jkr.gov.my. - Bernama
