GOMBAK: Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak joined thousands of Malaysians in celebrating Deepavali in a joyful display of harmony.

The Prime Minister and his wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, attended three open house events with the Hindu community as well as Malaysians from other faiths.

In the morning, Najib attended the MIC’s open house at the compound of the Batu Caves temple complex here.

MIC president Datuk Seri Dr S Subramaniam said over 10,000 people attended the event.

“The response has been great with Hindus who came to the temple here to celebrate Deepavali and taking the opportunity to attend our open house,” said Subramaniam, who wished all Malaysian Hindus a Happy Deepavali.

Present were leaders from Barisan Nasional component parties including MCA deputy president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong and Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor.

Najib later attended two other open houses hosted by the Malaysian Associated Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (MAICCI) in Sentul and the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) at Little India in Brickfields.
