KUALA LUMPUR: Three people, including the stepfather and mother of a two-year-old girl, have been detained following the death of the toddler, believed to be due to abuse.
City CID chief Senior Asst Comm Datuk Zainuddin Ahmad said police were first alerted by the girl’s father who lodged a report on her death.
SAC Zainuddin said the 28-year-old father had received a call from his ex-wife asking him to go to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) as their daughter had been admitted at about 10.25pm on Friday.
“When the father arrived, he was informed by the doctors that the girl had already died,” he said yesterday.
The father lodged a report at the HKL police booth at 1.08am.
Investigations, said SAC Zainuddin, revealed that the girl had been brought to the hospital by her stepfather and a friend at 10.13pm.
The child, he added, had earlier been playing at her stepfather’s home in Lojing Heights, Wangsa Maju, at about 8pm when she apparently started to choke and cough.
“The victim was brought to a private clinic in Taman Melawati before they were told to go to HKL for further treatment,” he said, adding that the girl was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.
A post-mortem revealed that the cause of death as severe head injury due to blunt force trauma.
SAC Zainuddin said the three suspects – the 34-year-old stepfather, his 35-year-old friend and 28-year-old wife – were arrested at HKL, adding that they had been remanded for seven days.
The remains of the girl had been claimed by the father and buried in Gombak at noon yesterday.
