KUALA LUMPUR: Subang MP R. Sivarasa (pic) was charged with uttering seditious words at the #KitaLawan illegal rally on March 7.
Sivarasa pleaded not guilty to the charge under Section 4(1)(b) of the Sedition Act 1948 at the Sessions Court here on Tuesday.
The PKR lawmaker allegedly committed the offence at the area of the KLCC Esplanade at about 5.20pm.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohd Masri Daud proposed bail at RM2,000 in one surety.
Judge Azman Mustapha granted DPP Masri's application and set Nov 19 for mention.
On Sept 8, Bersih 2.0 chairman Maria Chin Abdullah, Jingga 13 chairman Mohd Fariz Abd Talib@Musa, Bersih 2.0 secretariat manager Mandeep Singh, Bayan Baru MP Sim Tze Tzin, Adam Adli Abd Halim, Teja Assemblyman Chang Lih Kang, special aide to Batu MP Rozan Azen Mat Rasip and PKR member Lee Chean Chung also claimed trial for taking part in the rally.
They were accused under Section 4(2)(c) of the Peaceful Assembly Act and face a maximum fine of RM10,000, if found guilty.
The alleged offence was said to have been committed in several places including Jalan Tun Perak, Sogo Complex, Esplanade KLCC, between 3.15pm and 6pm on March 28 this year.
They were charged in three separate courts with participating in the rally which was held to call for reformation and Anwar’s release, protest against the Goods and Services Tax (GST), support for freedom of speech and the right to assemble.
