PUTRAJAYA: With five years to go to 2020, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak (pic) says Malaysia's digital economy is heading in the "right direction".
Citing the latest ICT Satellite Account figures released by the Department of Statistics, Najib said the contribution of the digital economy to national gross domestic product (GDP) reached 17% last year.
"The digital economy significantly enhanced its contribution to the GDP, from 16.38% in 2013 to 17% last year.
"Considering that 17% was the 2020 target initially set back in 2011, it is evident that our digital economy is heading in the right direction," Najib said in his opening remarks at the 27th MSC Malaysia Implementation Council Meeting here Thursday.
The 17% target is set by Digital Malaysia, a government initiative with an aim to spearhead the country towards a developed digital economy by 2020.
