SHAH ALAM: PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali (pic) has denied claims of a split in PKR and that a third force from among its members has formed a new party.

‎''PKR is strong and we are united. There is no third force or fifth force as alleged when we are united.

''There is only one party, one leadership and we speak with one voice,'' he said when met after chairing the weekly Selangor Economic Action Council meeting here Thursday.

On Wednesday, former Selangor Mentri Besar ‎Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim wrote on his Facebook page that he would not be surprised if there was a split in PKR and if some of its members formed a new party. He said he believed this would happen because the party was not properly managed.

‎Azmin was asked about Khalid's comments and also if the allegation of a third force within PKR was true.

He said Khalid was no longer a PKR member and therefore should stay out of party matters.

''He is an outsider. So stay away from PKR. We know how to manage our own party."

Azmin also said PKR has emerged stronger under the leadership of Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

''Of course we are facing challenges at the national level with the economic and leadership crisis.

''But we will be able to face these challenges as a team under Dr Wan Azizah's leadership,'' he added.

Talk has been rife of a split in PKR, after supporters of Azmin, the deputy president, supposedly formed an alliance with those unhappy with president Dr Wan Azizah's impromptu announcement of Pakatan Harapan's formation.

A petition was sent in by 25 party members demanding a supreme council meeting to discuss her announcement.

The petition was signed by Batu MP Tian Chua, Padang Serai MP N. Surendran, Petaling Jaya Selatan MP Lee Hoy Sian, Ampang MP Zuraida Kamaruddin, Sri Muda assemblyman Shuhaimi Shafiei, Kampung Medan assemblyman Haniza Talha, Bukit Lanjan assemblyman Elizabeth Wong, Kota Anggerik assemblyman Dr Yaakob Sapari and Batu Caves assemblyman Amirudin Shari.
