Woman dies in four-vehicle pile-up

ALOR SETAR: A woman perished in an accident involving four vehicles at Pekan Ayer Hitam near here Friday afternoon.

Kubang Pasu district police chief Supt Abdul Rahim Abdullah said the vehicles involved were a bus, a Toyota Unser MPV, a Proton Waja and a Kawasaki superbike.

"The accident occurred at 4.50pm Friday at KM22 of Jalan Putra-Ayer Hitam stretch, in front of the Ayer Hitam voluntary firefighting squad building," he said.

"The deceased was identified as Noor Haslinda Hashim, 34, a Government servant, the wife of the Toyota Unser driver.

"She was pinned under the rear seat and sustained serious head and body injuries," he said.

Supt Abdul Rahim said she was rushed to the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital here, but she succumbed to her injuries at around 8pm.

In the incident, Supt Abdul Rahim said the Toyota Unser, carrying six passengers, had stopped to make a right turn when the bus rammed into it from behind.

The impact caused the car to spin and hit the Proton Waja and Kawasaki superbike coming from the opposite direction.

Supt Abd Rahim said investigations would be carried out under Section 41(1)(A) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Noor Haslinda's body was sent to Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital for post-mortem and has since been claimed by her husband Mohammad Iqhfan Mohd Yazi, 34, and sent back to Pasir Gudang, Johor for burial.

She leaves behind two sons, aged two and five.

Her elder son sustained a slight injury to his head and received a few stitches at the hospital.
