PETALING JAYA: There was no shortage of star power at this year’s MTV World Stage Malaysia as some of the hottest names in music right now, Jason Derulo and Carly Rae Jepsen, entertained some 20,000 fans last night.

Joined by Malaysian singer Stacy, Japanese band Sekai no Owari and South Korean girl group Apink, the star-studded cast made up for last year’s depleted line-up which saw the cancellation of its headliner vocal powerhouse Jennifer Hudson at the eleventh hour.

The crowd at Surf Beach in Sunway Lagoon, Subang Jaya, grooved to Want To Want Me as Derulo belted the infectious number and sang along with Jepsen when she performed her signature Call Me Maybe.

Earlier in the day, Jepsen said at a press conference that being in the country had inspired her to write new music.

“Since I’ve been here, I’ve had this burst of writing energy.

“That happens sometimes when I go to a place that’s really inspiring.” Jepsen said.

“So I’ve just spent the morning with my guitar, working on a new song and it has a 1970s flavour to it.”

Meanwhile, Derulo said he is excited to entertain local fans.

“Malaysian crowds are very passionate and crazy – much like myself. I think we will get on very well,” he said.
