PETALING JAYA: The authorities have arrested a webmaster for online sales of obscene animation to school students for as low as RM2.
Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) monitoring and enforcement division head Zulkarnain Mohd Yasin said the animations contradict Islamic teachings and Malaysian values.
Zulkarinain said in a statement the items seized during a raid with the police in Subang Jaya on Thursday included telephone SIM cards, pendrives, external hard drives, laptops, desktop computers and a modem.
He said the raid was carried out after several complaints from the public of obscene content for commercial purposes on the internet.
"The MCMC takes the abuse of internet applications seriously and will take all actions as provided by Section 233(2) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 which imposes a maximum fine of RM 50,000, a jail term of not more than one year or both," said Zulkarnain.
He added that action could also be taken under Section 292 of the Penal Code for selling, hiring, distributing, publicly exhibiting any obscene book, pamphlet, paper, drawing, painting, representation of obscene objects.
"We urge the public to be alert when using the Internet. Use it wisely and not to conduct negative activities," said Zulkarnain.
