KUALA LUMPUR: Police arrested four men over two incidents of hurling lighted firecrackers as participants of the Bersih 4 rally here began to disperse on Sunday.
Kuala Lumpur Police chief Datuk Tajudin Md Isa (pic) said one of the men was held for throwing lighted firecrackers at the crowd in the vicinity of Dataran Merdeka.
Later, two more men were arrested for doing the same thing. Another person, who tried to stop the police from arresting the duo, was also nabbed, he told Bernama.
On Sunday, Tajudin said in a statement that a 21-year-old man was arrested at Dataran Merdeka for engaging in an obscene act and failing to produce his identity card.
The Bersih 4 rally wrapped up peacefully and ended with protesters moving on to celebrate National Day on the fringes of Dataran Merdeka.
Tajuddin said the protesters complied with police instructions and there were only a few isolated incidents, including the burning of a protester’s vehicle.
There were some problems towards the tail end of the rally when three firecrackers explosions were heard.
It was reported that four people were injured in the incident.
