KUALA LUMPUR: Despite an eleventh-hour venue change, the "Ambang Merdeka" event attracted a few hundred Malaysians who ushered in Merdeka Day at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium.

The people, mostly families with little children, began arriving at 8pm and almost everyone had a Jalur Gemilang to wave.
