KUALA LUMPUR: There is no flight cancellation to Bangkok despite the recent bombing at the Thai capital, said Malaysia Airlines.

Its senior manager for regional sales Kathleen Leong said it was still too early to see the impact.

The airline, she said, was also waiting for the Foreign Ministry to issue a travel advisory before making any decision on flights.

“From past experiences, I think Bangkok is one of the destinations that recover quickly.

“I am amazed by how they deal with crisis and how they manage to get their tourism sector to recover,” she told reporters here yesterday.

Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) CEO Phua Tai Neng said the bombing might have a slight effect on the number of leisure travellers but expected tourism to bounce back fast.

The Thai Tourism and Sports Ministry is offering insurance payment to families of those killed or injured in the blast.

The insurance payment of about 300,000 baht (RM34,566.76) will be made to families of deceased while injured victims will receive 100,000 baht (RM11,522.25).

The ministry would also set up service points at various hospitals in Bangkok to facilitate communications with the victims’ families.
