Abu Sayyaf demands RM30mil for release of Sandakan hostages

KOTA KINABALU: Abu Sayyaf militants in the southern Philippines are demanding RM30mil for the release of two Malaysians snatched from a seaside restaurant in Sandakan on May 14.

Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Jalaluddin Abd Rahman said that negotiations were still ongoing with the kidnappers to reduce the amount demanded, and that they had initially asked for RM60mil for the release of the two.
