ALOR SETAR: Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir says Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid’s appointment as Education Minister will benefit Kedah.

The Mentri Besar said Kedah was lagging behind other states in education.

“I am very happy with the appointment of Tok Det (Mahdzir). I hope Kedah will emerge among the top five states in education,” he said at a thanksgiving event at his home in Seri Mentaloon on Saturday night.

Besides Mahdzir, the others present included Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom, Deputy Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah, who all retained their posts.

Mukhriz noted that Mahdzir was the third person from Kedah to be appointed to the post. The two others were Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and the late Tan Sri Mohd Khir Johari.

Mahdzir pledged to improve educational infrastructure in Kedah to help the state achieve excellence. — Bernama
