Nazir Razak warns of Malaysia's 'Game of Thrones'

PETALING JAYA: CIMB Group chairman Datuk Seri Nazir Razak has warned that Malaysia's political storm may turn into a "Game of Thrones" if left unchecked.

"Through this political turmoil, we must preserve & protect the integrity of our institutions or we descend into a game of thrones," Nazir, the youngest brother of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, wrote on his Instagram account nazir.razak.

The post carried an image of character Eddard Stark, the second in command in the kingdom of Westeros, who was put to death for threatening to expose a high-stakes scandal.

A famous quote from the series "Game of thrones. You win or you die," was written on the image.

Game of Thrones is a highly popular fantasy series by HBO which revolves around the politics and governance of the medieval-inspired land of Westeros.

On Tuesday, Najib announced a surprise Cabinet reshuffle where Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin was dropped from both his Deputy Prime Minister and Education Minister posts.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi replaced Muhyiddin as Deputy Prime Minister and  Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid took over his Education Minister portfolio.

Muhyiddin was dropped due to his opinions and public statements on 1Malaysia Devlopment Berhad (1MDB) which Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said went against the concept of collective responsibility of the Cabinet.

Four other ministers were also replaced.
