KUANTAN: Hundreds of commuters on the East Coast Expressway (LPT) from Temerloh to Kuala Lumpur were caught in heavy traffic congestion at Km85 due to fallen trees caused by thunderstorms on Sunday.

Five vehicles were damaged by the trees in the 3pm incident.

LPT operator Anih Berhad director Nik Fauzi Nik Hussein confirmed that no deaths were reported in the storm that lasted for about 10 minutes.

"Immediate action was taken to clean up the route.

"We will continue to monitor the situation to ensure such an incident will not recur," he told Bernama.

Pahang Fire and Rescue Service deputy director Morni Mamat said the department received a report on the incident at about 4pm and a fire engine with seven personnel were despatched to the scene.
