Secret illegal plantation in forest

BERA: On a trunk road in Sungai Air Kuning, what appears to be a wall of trees hides a “hole” in the forest within the Tasek Bera Ramsar site. About 20ha of forest have been illegally cleared for planting oil palm and rubber trees in what has been alleged to be the work of orang asli.

Tasek Bera Ramsar site superintendent Aminuddin Jamin said the cleared area is a forest reserve and enforcement is supposed to be under the jurisdiction of the Forestry Department.
