KUALA LUMPUR: A family of five collected their newly sewn baju raya and headed home to celebrate the first day of the festivity.
Little did they know it would be the last time the family would be whole. A hit-and-run driver forced them off the road and into the path of an oncoming bus in Jalan Kuching here.
The accident killed the eldest daughter while the mother and an 11-year-old daughter were hospitalised.
The family was on the way home to Kampung Baru early Friday after meeting their tailor in Klang.
The driver of a BMW rammed into the back of their Proton Perdana, sending the car onto the opposite lane.
“At that time there was an express tour bus on the road. The bus driver could not stop in time and it crashed into the right side of the Proton,” said Kuala Lumpur staff officer for Traffic Investigation and Regulation Deputy Supt Markandan Subramaniam.
The BMW driver fled the scene after the crash.
College student Farhanna Qistina Supandi (pic), 21, suffered severe injuries and died at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital at 5.45am.
Farhanna Qistina had appeared in several TV shows in supporting roles.
Her sister, Farhanna Qismina, who stars in Astro Ceria’s Elly dan Epit, escaped with minor injuries.
The family’s youngest daughter is reportedly in critical condition.
A family member said they were supposed to travel to their hometown in Muar, Johor, today.
DSP Markandan said police managed to find fragments of the runaway BMW’s number plate.
They are now combing the streets for CCTV footage to identify the driver.
The case has been classified as reckless driving.
