PETALING JAYA: Wanita MCA wants all the speculation and rumour-mongering over the Low Yat Plaza scuffle to end as it is harming social harmony.

The wing’s vice-chairman Ong Chong Swen called on the police to not hesitate to invoke the Sedition Act on the rioters and rumour-mongers because it was necessary in this situation.

“The attitude of some netizens who simply ignore authentic news and post pictures and statements instigating racial sentiments on Facebook is appalling,” Ong said in a statement on Monday.

“Some further claimed that the whole incident is a conspiracy.

"The riot, if not contained, could lead to another racial disaster with irreversible impacts,” she said, adding that the police had already classified the case as shoplifting and it should not be interpreted otherwise.

“Whether the riot was due to stealing a smart-phone or sale of a substandard hand phone, it should be left to the police to investigate. Nobody should take the law into his own hand,” added Ong.
