KOTA KINABALU: Mudslides and flash floods will prevail in four rivers flowing from Mount Kinabalu as the effects of the June 5 earthquake continue to be felt.
Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) geologist Prof Felix Tongkul said the once pristine waterways – Kadamaian and Penataran to the west of the mountain and Mesilau Kiri and Mesilau Kanan – had been ecologically destroyed. He said the earthquake and subsequent aftershock tremors numbering more than 100 had loosened rocks, boulders, soil and vegetation on the mountain slopes.
