PETALING JAYA: Two rival groups on Sunday lodged police reports over The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) article - one against the Prime Minister and the other against the daily.
The reports by PKR Youth and Perkasa at the Dang Wangi station were over WSJ's article alleging that US$700mil (RM2.6bil) of 1Malaysia Development Bhd funds were transferred to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak's personal accounts.
PKR Youth chief Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad (pic) who made the report against the Prime Minister said Najib should address the issue immediately.
If the allegations by WSJ and Sarawak Report are false, then Najib should sue them, Nik Nazmi said in a statement.
“However, if Najib does not deny the allegation, he has no choice but to resign. This allegation is very serious although Malaysians are ‘used to’ various corruption scandals and leakages before this,” said Nik Nazmi.
Perkasa's report was against WSJ for "telling lies."
Its monitoring and integrity bureau secretary, Azrul Akmal Saharudin, said any allegation from a foreign element has its secret agenda meant to jeopardise the nation.
“The bureau wants the investigations to be done as fair as possible without any sense of apology.
"We are in line with the deputy Prime Minister who wants the authorities to investigate this matter transparently and comprehensively," he said.
1MDB had insisted that no funds were transferred to Najib’s personal accounts.
Najib had also denied taking any funds for his personal gains, and accused former premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad of being responsible behind the latest “lie”.
WSJ has stood by its report, saying that it possessed “solid” documents to back its claim.
Attorney-General Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail confirmed that he had seen the documents relating to the case.
