KUALA LUMPUR: BookFest@Malaysia, the largest book exposition in the country, returns bigger and bolder for its 10th anniversary this year.

The annual nine-day fair will begin at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre next Saturday.

Organised by Popular Book Co (M) Sdn Bhd, the event will offer over 1.5 million books, as well as stationery, multimedia items and fancy gifts over an area of almost 15,000 sq m, about 3,000 sq m larger than the previous year.

“The bigger space comes from a new hall that we have named the Edu-Leisure Pavilion, which will be filled with fun gadgets and educational products,” said Popular Book executive director Lim Lee Ngoh at the event launch here yesterday.

This addition means BookFest@Malaysia 2015 will have four pavilions – Chinese, English, Edu-Leisure and Lifestyle – with the last open only on July 14.

Themed “Perfect 10” in conjunction with its anniversary, BookFest@Malaysia 2015 will continue to offer great deals and its signature Daily Specials, said Lim, who added there will be over 220 events involving 245 Malaysian and foreign authors and artistes.

“Activities include talk and quiz shows, competitions, live performances, cooking demos, autograph sessions, meeting celebrities, and so on,” she said.

Present at the launch was Deputy Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun.

“Books are a window to infinite views and imagination, and I believe that we Malaysians need to enrich our lives and continue to progress by reading widely and wisely,” Chew said.

BookFest@Malaysia 2015 will be on daily from July 11 to 19 (10am to 10pm). Admission is with the purchase of the BookFest catalogue at RM2.50 per entry, or RM10 for multiple entries over nine days.

Catalogues will be available at all Popular and Harris outlets nationwide from today, as well as at the event’s entrance.

Star Media Group Bhd (formerly known as Star Publications (M) Bhd) is a media partner of BookFest@Malaysia 2015.
