Police step up patrols in three city areas

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have stepped up patrols in three areas in the city frequented by tourists and expatriates in an effort to prevent against them becoming victims of robberies.

The three areas are Jalan Kia Peng, Jalan Pinang and the Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC), Dang Wangi police chief ACP Zainol Samah said, adding that patrols were being increased following robbery cases involving expatriates reported in the areas.

Four robberies have been reported in the areas so far this year.

The latest incident on May 16 involved a 43-year-old tourist from Italy.

He denied reports that a group of teenagers was responsible for the robberies involving foreign tourists and expatriates in the three areas.

“The police have identified two groups and we are discussing with the security authorities there to assist us in identifying and apprehending the culprits,” he said. – Bernama
