Haron

KOTA BARU: PAS spiritual adviser Datuk Dr Haron Din was the latest among party leaders to criticise DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang over the latter's speech on hudud at a ceramah last Monday.

Haron said Lim had gone overboard in not respecting the sensitivity of the Kelantan people who had given the mandate to the state government to implement and enforce hudud laws.

"Lim should have at the least realised that he was attending the ceramah by local leaders and as a visitor has to observe the sensitivity of the host.

"Even non-Muslims know this but instead he stressed his rejection of hudud while the host is doing the opposite.

"I do not believe anyone in Kelantan will agree with what Lim had done, especially saying such sensitive things in a PAS bastion," Haron told reporters after a lecture at the Sultan Ismail Petra International Islamic Universiti (Kias) here on Friday.

Lim, who is Gelang Patah MP, was reported to have said that he was not anti-Islam but that he rejected the PAS' plan to implement hudud in Kelantan because it was not suitable for a multi-racial country.

On the move by vice-president Ahmad Awang to challenge Datuk Seri Hadi Awang for the top post next month, Haron said it was "futile and a waste of time."

He said the signal from grassroots members were clear that they wanted Hadi to continue.

"But in this case Ahmad already knows that he only has eight nominations compared to Hadi's 99 and this Ahmad must consider and unless he just want to contest for the sake of contesting, it is a waste of time.

"If Ahmad feels that he is not wasting his time then by all means contest but he must remember that in Islam it is unwise to do something futile, unless we have the objective to carry out a task," he said.

Ahmad, also Perak PAS commissioner, made known his intention to take on Hadi for the top post that had not seen a contest for decades.
