KOTA BARU: Kelantan PAS will haul up the Kota Baru division to explain why it invited DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang to speak about hudud at a ceramah here.

Its state deputy commissioner (I) Datuk Mohd Amar Abdullah said Lim’s controversial visit was not sanctioned by Kelantan PAS.

“We want to know why the division did not refer to us about inviting Lim.

“We are of the opinion that it was inappropriate for Lim to speak about hudud when everybody knows that he has rejected such laws ever since the Kelantan government went ahead with the Syariah Criminal Code II 1993 (Amendment 2015),” the Deputy Mentri Besar told reporters after attending the state exco meeting here yesterday.

Lim, added Mohd Amar, also did not have the authority to speak about hudud, especially when he was one of those within Pakatan Rakyat who opposed PAS’ plan.

Mentri Besar Datuk Ahmad Yakob agreed, adding that Lim should not have spoken about hudud, especially to the PAS grassroots.

It was unkind of Lim, he added, to speak about this in Kelantan.

“It is okay for Lim to ‘crow’ outside Kelantan but not in the state. I regret that this has happened.”

Kota Baru PAS deputy chief Dr Rosli Allani Abdul Kadir said it would provide an explanation to the state liaison committee.

“I prefer not to say anything now and I am exercising the division's right to provide the explanation through meetings, and not via newspapers.

“We are prepared to meet the liaison committee or even the disciplinary panel to discuss this controversy,” he said.On Monday, Lim, the Gelang Patah MP, told a crowd of PAS supporters that he was not anti-Islam but that he rejected PAS’ hudud plan because it was not suitable for a multi-racial country.

He went on to say that countries like Jordan or Egypt did not place emphasis on hudud and that such laws were secondary to the people’s welfare.

Present at the ceramah were PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli and Kota Baru PAS chief Datuk Wan Rahim Wan Abdullah. PAS vice-president Datuk Husam Musa, who was invited, did not attend.
