KUALA PILAH: Enforcement officers tasked with monitor profiteering activities following the implementation of the Good and Services Tax have had their annual leave frozen for an indefinite period.
Domestic Trade, Consumerism and Cooperatives Minister Datuk Seri Hasan Malek said the 2,045 officers will be required to take turns to go to the ground to investigate public complaints and take appropriate action.
"We want the rakyat to know that we are taking their complaints seriously.
"My officers have been on the ground 24 hours a day including during weekdays and public holidays," he said adding that approval from the Public Service Department had been obtained to hire another 427 enforcement officers.
"We are not affected by the temporary freeze on the hiring of government staff as we need more enforcement officers on the ground," he said.
