KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak made a surprise visit to Kampung Baru here yesterday.
The visit by the nation’s top leader was kept low-profile and unannounced to the media. The visit was later shared on Najib’s Facebook page.
Najib spent about an hour during the afternoon walkabout and stopped by a workshop run by a disabled man.
“Just now I visited Bengkel 2H Auto Workshop run by Zaharul, one of the successful disabled entrepreneurs in Kampung Baru.
“This workshop has benefited from the Tekun programme that is aimed to help bumiputras start or advance their businesses,” he said in his Facebook posting.
The Prime Minister also spent time with several Tekun entrepreneurs during lunch at Restoran Matahari.
Tekun Nasional is a government agency under the purview of the Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Ministry.
It was set up in 1998 to provide financial facilities for entrepreneurs to start or advance their businesses.
