BUKIT MERTAJAM: Barisan National Youth has been reminded not respond to any provocation from the Opposition during campaigning for the Permatang Pauh by-election.

Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is also Barisan's by-election coordinator there, told supporters to remain disciplined and nto to soil their good name.

"Don't backstab each other and don't slander. We must be united. We are here to fight for the people and for the Permatang Pauh seat," he said when launching the Barisan Youth machinery at Perda City Mall here.

Zahid said he would be in Permatang Pauh until May 8, and would closely monitor the campaign.

He expressed confidence with Barisan Youth as they had a proven track record of helping out during elections.

He also said Permatang Pauh had been left behind for the past 17 years and seven general elections.

"This time, we are telling the people, that enough is enough, it's Barisan's time to take over," he said.

Zahid also suggested PKR candidate Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, would not be able to manage her time well if elected.

"I'm not confident that she can spend the same time here and in Kajang (where she is the assemblyman). She has to look after her grandchildren too," he said.

He added that Permatang Pauh needed development, especially in the marginalised suburb areas.

"We will remind the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister to allocate funds here for development," he said.
