Apologise or lose our support, PAS tells PKR

GEORGE TOWN: The Permatang Pauh PAS division stands by its decision – it will not support PKR in the upcoming by-election if its leaders fail to apologise to PAS by April 25.

This is despite Penang PAS deputy commissioner Datuk Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa declaring Sunday’s motion on the decision as null and void.

Earlier, he said the central committee would pledge unconditional support for Pakatan Rakyat’s candidate.

Division chief Omar Hassan said the motion was passed following votes by about 400 members from 30 branches during its 38th annual general meeting on Sunday.

“We stand by it. We’ll wait and see if they will apologise,” Omar said yesterday.

Under the motion, the division demanded that PKR leaders apologise to PAS by nomination day on April 25 or the Islamist party would not cooperate with PKR.

The latter had declared it would not support Kelantan government’s hudud move in its defence of the parliamentary seat on May 7.

Dr Mujahid, who is also a central committee member, said the motion was null and void.

“I urge PAS members to abide by the decision of the central committee, not the division,” he said.

He expressed surprise over Omar’s stand as he was in support of the central committee’s decision at a recent meeting.
