GEORGE TOWN: The Nattukottai Chettiar Temple in Jalan Kebun Bunga here was a hive of activity as more than 1,500 people converged to celebrate Varisha Purapu (Tamil New Year).
The temple, which is one of the oldest in the state and the site where the silver chariot makes its journey to every year, started conducting pooja (special prayer) sessions as early as 6am, and offerings were made to Lord Muruga for his blessings.
