SEREMBAN: The Negri Sembilan Barisan Nasional has declared its undivided support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s leadership.
Mentri Besar and state Barisan chief Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said all component party leaders also felt that infighting would only weaken the coalition.
“There is an old Malay saying that it is the chicken that will benefit when two farmers compete by pounding their freshly harvested padi.
“The two wooden stumps used to pound the rice may look like a friendly fight but it is the chicken that will benefit as it will pick on grains that spill out of the receptacle,” he said.
Mohamad, who had earlier chaired a state Barisan meeting at Wisma Negri said there were many other issues needing immediate attention.
“For example, we have the IS threat at our doorstep and yet people are questioning the credibility of the Prime Minister.
“We cannot afford to lose our focus as the next general election is not far away,” he said.
Mohamad said it was the people who should decide if Barisan and Najib were fit to rule.
“Until then, we should be left to do our work,” he said adding that some groups and political parties were bent on destroying Najib’s credibility for personal gains.
Mohamad said there were no reasons for anyone to doubt the Prime Minister’s capabilities as the country’s economy had done well despite the global uncertainties caused by a combination of factors.
“Our economic fundamentals are strong and we have continued to register a trade surplus.
“We have very healthy reserves and the government has also taken sufficient measures to strengthen our domestic direct investments as we can’t be over reliant on FDIs,” he added.
Mohamad also took a swipe at the Pakatan Rakyat for attacking Najib.
“In the first place, Pakatan, which is not even a registered body, has failed to upkeep pledges made during the general election.
“They had promised to do away with toll on the Penang bridge during the last election but did not do so,” he said adding that on the contrary, the Penang Government recently announced a hike in water rates.
In SHAH ALAM, Selangor Umno pledged its full support to Najib as Umno president and Prime Minister.
Its chief, Datuk Seri Noh Omar said criticisms hurled at Najib were made without looking thoroughly at his efforts, contributions and what he had done to make the nation better.
“Like what our deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has said, Najib should be given a chance to lead the country according to his way for the benefit of the rakyat.
“All issues raised by former premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamed have been answered during the TV3 programme last night and I hope all parties will accept the answers with open heart,” he told a media conference.
