KUALA LUMPUR: In the wake of the turmoil in Yemen, a total of 101 Malaysians have been evacuated from the Hadhramaut region.
Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein said the group had been relocated to Salalah, Oman.
"We are in the midst of evacuating our countrymen in Yemen to a safer place before being brought back to Malaysia.
"For now, our embassy is resolving the issues faced by seven Malaysians, who have problems with their travelling documents," he said at a press conference at the Defence Ministry on Thursday.
He added that there were 67 Malaysians in Yemen's seaport city of Aden.
"The situation there is critical. We are doing all we can to evacuate Malaysians there.
"We also urge and plead those who refuse to come back to Malaysia to rethink their decision.
"The situation in Hadhramaut may not be as bad as Aden, but things can change, and we don't want to compromise the safety of our countrymen," he said.
