PETALING JAYA: Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad says Umno and hence Barisan Nasional will lose in the 14th general election if Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak remains in power.

In his blog yesterday, the former prime minister claimed that Najib has failed to address accusation against him and has lost public confidence.

“The people, be they the Malays, Chinese, Indians or Sabahans or Sarawakians, no longer believe in Najib.

“Umno members and its leaders need to realise that Umno and hence Barisan will lose if Najib continues to lead Umno up to GE14,” he said.

In his strongest criticism of Najib yet, Dr Mahathir warned that if Umno were to lose, it would never recover.

Insisting that he was still a loyal member of the party, Dr Mahathir said that many Umno members and leaders were being blindly loyal to the top leadership.

Among the accusations Dr Mahathir referred to were those involving the murder of Mongolian model Altantuya Shaariibuu, the 1Malaysia Development controversy and the purchase of a private jet.

On the 1MDB controversy, he cited articles in the New York Times, London Times and Sarawak Report.

He asked where Najib’s stepson Riza Aziz got the money to produce the movie Wolf of Wall Street.

While Malaysians were facing natural disasters, higher living costs and an uncertain economy, the Government was wasting funds, Dr Mahathir said.

He said that Najib as Prime Minister had bought another luxury jet when there was already an executive jet being used not only for official business but also as “personal transport for Datuk Seri and Datin Seri”.

Dr Mahathir said he was not senile although he was nearing 90, and “those who say I am are lying to themselves”.

“It was not easy for me to write this. But for the race and country, I am forced to reveal all this,” he said.

Dr Mahathir also pointed out a statement by Sirul Azhar Umar, a policeman convicted of Altantuya’s murder, that he was under orders to commit the act.

Sirul is now being detained in Australia.
