Selangor Speaker Hannah Yeoh's parents robbed

PETALING JAYA: Selangor Speaker Hannah Yeoh (pic) has sent an emergency message to Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar on Twitter after her parents' house was robbed by "five masked men" on Sunday.

"5 masked men with parang just robbed my parents' house in USJ. Dad and brother were tied up @KBAB51," tweeted Yeoh. @KBAB51 is Khalid's official Twitter account.

She told The Star Online that she has lodged a report.

On Facebook, Yeoh, who is Subang Jaya assemblyman, said the robbers struck at about 10am.

"These men wore gloves and ski masks. Dad and brother were tied up. My mother, maid, grandaunt and niece were all forced to cover their heads with a blanket while the man ransacked the entire house for about 15-20 mins," she wrote.

She said she was thankful that none of her family members were injured.

"It is crime such as this that remains the greatest concern of Malaysians. We want to see a safer Malaysia, and that requires efficient utilisation of our police resources in combating real crime," she said.

Subang Jaya Deputy OCPD Supt Tan Ah Chua when contacted, said that the police were already investigating the case.

"Five men wearing ski masks and gloves, armed with five parang, had come to the house when (Yeoh's) brother was cleaning the house compound.

"They then instructed all the victims to gather in the TV room and the suspects tied their hands with cable ties.

"The suspects rummaged through the entire house in about 20mins and managed to escape in an undetermined vehicle," he said.

Supt Tan said the suspects were believed to have entered the house compound, which was equipped with close-circuit television, through an unlocked side gate.

Although the police have yet to determine the estimated damages, he said the robbers had run away with about RM8,000 cash, various jewellery, alcoholic beverages and five boxes of birds' nests.
