KUALA LUMPUR: Senior Deputy Comm Datuk Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff has been appointed as the new Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) director.

Promoted to the rank of commissioner, the Johor police chief takes over from Datuk Noor Rashid Ibrahim, who was promoted to Deputy Inspector-General of Police last year.

The NCID director's post was temporarily held by the department's deputy director Deputy Comm Datuk Haris Wong, in an acting capacity.

Inspector-General of Police Secretariat assistant head (corporate communications) Asst Comm Datin Asmawati Ahmad said Bukit Aman Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department deputy director (operations) Deputy Comm Datuk Rusli Ahmad takes over as Johor police chief.

"The promotion and transfer is effective when the respective officers report for duty soon," she said.
