Spat in PAS spreads wider

JOHOR BARU: The spat between the conservatives and the progressives in PAS continues with Johor PAS saying that the party president need not necessarily be an ulama as those from the professional group could also vie for the top post.

Johor PAS deputy commissioner Dzulkefly Ahmad pointed out that of the seven presidents, three – Datuk Dr Abbas Alias (1953-1956), Dr Burhanuddin Al-Helmy (1956-1969) and Datuk Mohd Asri Muda (1969-1982) – were from the professional group.
