KOTA BARU: PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said she was deeply touched after visiting Tuan Sabariah Tuan Ishak, the widow of the late PAS spiritual leader Datuk Nik Aziz Nik Mat.

"Despite her losing her husband, I was deeply touched and amazed at how she could still console and give me support after what happened to my family.

"She even had the strength to remind me that we would both face this test together," Dr Wan Azizah said referring to her husband, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who started his five-year jail term at Sungei Buloh prison on Tuesday.

Dr Wan Azizah was accompanied by her daughter, Nurul Izzah, when they visited Nik Aziz's family to offer their condolences on Friday night. Nik Aziz passed away on Thursday night.

"I am a victim and Tuan Sabariah's husband went to see his Creator. We both could feel the loss right now," she added.

Dr Wan Azizah refused to comment on her 45-minute visit to Anwar earlier in the day.

Nurul Izzah said the focus of their visit should be on Nik Aziz and it was inappropriate to talk about politics at this time.

She added that they had asked for Anwar to be allowed to attend Nik Aziz's funeral but was denied.

"We tried asking for him to be allowed to attend the funeral but unfortunately it was denied.

"However, we were glad to see him in high spirit and he asked us to send his regards to Tok Guru's family. He also reminded us to regard Tok Guru as our role model for his wisdom, leadership and undying spirit," said Nurul Izzah.
