National leaders offer condolences over Nik Aziz’s passing

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak was giving a speech at a function when he stopped abruptly - to be notified of former Kelantan Mentri Besar Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat's death.

Najib, who was at the 15th Cheras Education Foundation anniversary celebration then informed those present about the PAS spiritual leader's death and offered 'Al-Fatihah' prayers.

The Prime Minister also extended his condolences through his Twitter account saying "Innalillahiwainnalilahirajiun. I am saddened by the demise of Tok Guru Datuk Nik Aziz Nik Mat. May his soul rest in peace, 'Al-Fatihah'.

Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin also offered his condolences to the family of the late Nik Aziz through his Twitter account.

"Moga roh beliau ditempatkan bsama hamba2Nya yg soleh (May his soul rest with god's righteous servants), tweeted Muhyiddin.

Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir also expressed his condolences through a Short Messaging System (SMS) to Nik Aziz's son, Nik Abduh.

Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin in his Twitter page stated "Alfatihah. Condolences to the family of Tok Guru Nik Aziz on his passing. May his soul be together with the believers."

Several ministers, including Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal, Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor, Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin and Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Ahmad Maslan also conveyed their condolences to the late mentri besar's loved ones through their respective Twitter accounts.

Urban Well-being, Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan on his Twitter said "May Allah bless the soul of Tok Guru Nik Aziz. Although we had differences of opinion, he was a respected leader."

Transport Minister and MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai posted his condolence message on Twitter, saying that the country had lost a well-respected leader.

MIC president Datuk Seri G. Palanivel also posted "my condolence to the family of the former Kelantan MB, Datuk Nik Aziz".

Nik Aziz passed away at his house in Pulau Melaka, Kota Baharu at 9.40pm Thursday night. - Bernama
