GEORGE TOWN: The Pakatan Rakyat leadership council meeting slotted for Sunday will not proceed if PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang does not turn up, said DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng (pic).
He said the decision for DAP leaders not to proceed with the meeting without Abdul Hadi was made by the party’s central executive committee.
He said DAP had received the assurance from Pakatan secretariat that Abdul Hadi would attend the meeting, to be held at the PAS headquarters in Jalan Raja Laut, Kuala Lumpur.
“The leadership meeting is long overdue. When we talk about the Pakatan leadership council meeting, the leaders must attend and this has not happened for an ‘extended period of time’,” he said after launching the upgrading of the Komtar overhead pedestrian bridge yesterday.
Asked about the possibility of the meeting being awkward following the exchange of strong words between DAP and PAS leaders in the past several weeks, Lim said: “As far as DAP leaders are concerned, we speak facts and we speak the truth. If we speak the truth, then what is there to be awkward about?”
Meanwhile, Gerakan Youth chief Tan Keng Liang urged Pakatan leaders to oppose and reject PAS’ hudud plan during the meeting.
“DAP and PKR leaders should make their stand clear to PAS,” he said, adding that the meeting was an apt platform for the Pakatan leaders to voice their stand on hudud.
