MALE teens are the focus of a new programme called Save Your Dara (Virginity), reported Kosmo!.

The Women, Family and Community Development Ministry initiated the programme, targeted mainly at 16-year-old males, to curb premarital sex.

Minister Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim said the programme would be officially implemented in 2016 by the National Population and Family Development Board (LPPKN).

“It is intended to create awareness on reproductive health and social matters from an early age for the targeted teen male group,” she said after the launch of the programme on Saturday.

“Efforts to educate should not only be directed towards females,” said Rohani.

“Male teens should be roped into the education effort as they are part of the issue as well.”

She added that both male and female youths had the responsibility to care for themselves and their maruah (dignity).

She said a survey done by LPPKN in July 2011 showed that 5.8% of the 5,088 respondents, between 13 and 24 years old, had engaged in premarital sex.

The travellers, who were heading to the northern areas, were left stranded as late as 4am on Saturday.

Sinar Harian reported that the travellers bought their tickets from touts who sold them at inflated prices.

A source told the daily that the situation was not something rare.

“It often happens during peak travel period such as weekends and long holidays.”
