PETALING JAYA: Datuk Nik Aziz Nik Mat's condition is improving, with the PAS spiritual leader conscious and able to speak, said his son Nik Abduh Nik Mat in a post on his Facebook page.

"He is conscious and able to greet others. Whenever he wakes, he asks for prayer times and for family members to read the Quran to him.

"He even corrected those who recited the verses wrongly," he said late Wednesday.

Nik Abduh also said that he had conveyed the well-wishes of national leaders to Nik Aziz for his speedy recovery, and told him that the people of Malaysia were praying for him.

"Father then replied cheerfully, 'God willing, I'll be back to full health'," said Nik Abduh.

Nik Aziz was taken to the Universiti Sains Malaysia Hospital (HUSM) Monday night after he suffered a stroke.

He was admitted to the HUSM intensive care unit Tuesday afternoon after his condition turned critical.
