Sibu hit by subsidised rice shortage

SIBU: The central region of the state is facing an acute shortage of S15% subsidised rice after the Agriculture and Agro-Based Industry Ministry stopped supply to 37 of the 47 wholesalers in the area from Jan 1.

Sibu Rice Wholesalers Association spokesman Eric Wong said only 430 tonnes of S15% subsidised rice, from the original monthly 1,800 tonnes, was now provided for the region.
