KUALA LUMPUR: There will be massive changes to the entire Kampung Baru area here with various upgrades and projects in the pipeline costing a total of RM43b il set to be put in place by the next 20 years.

The developments were unveiled during the launch of the Kampung Baru Detailed Development Master Plan 2020 by Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Datuk Muhyiddin Yassin at the Renaissance Hotel Thursday.

Muhyiddin said that the transformation would make Kampung Baru an iconic Malay settlement in the middle of the city centre.

"We however will retain the tradition and heritage of the area and will ensure that the current residents will not be sidelined following the developments," he said.

Among the new projects to be put in place include a new housing, recreational parks, a heritage and arts centre, an MRT station and also a large water body, which will also act as a water retention pond during floods.
