PETALING JAYA: Practice of nepotism and authoritarian rule brought the downfall of former Sri Lankan president Mahinda Rajapaksa, said Malaysian politicians after Mithripala Sirisena won the country’s presidential election on Friday.

Penang’s Deputy Chief Minister Dr P. Ramasamy said that his inability to handle the minorities, especially the Tamils and authoritarian rule since 2005 caused his downfall though many experts expected a walkover for Rajapaksa during the elections.
